Nanosensorics lab training

Theory:
Laser operation conditions, theory of light-matter interaction and optical gain of the semiconductor materials..

Experiment:
Characterization of optical gain and losses in semiconductor materials.

Laser safety instruction

The laser safety instructions seminar will be on Tuesday, 31st January 2012 from16:00 - 18:00 at INA seminar room (R-3107), Heinrich-Plettstr. 40.

Goals

  • Understanding absorption, spontaneous emission and stimulated emission in a semiconductor laser
  • Optical gain and losses measuring using the Variable stripe length Method
  • Safe handling of sophisticated optical setups with high power laser devices

What you will gain from the practicum

  • You will learn the fundamentals of how light is created in a semiconductor laser.
  • Performance of optical pumping experiments.
  • Safe handling of sophisticated optical setups with high power laser devices.
  • Valuable documentation of the results.
  • Team-based working experience in a modern research environment.

General information

The student team is supervised by Mr. Abdel-Awwad, who is responsible for the coordination of the practicum for all participating students. The working schedule for the experiment is flexible.

Course prerequisite

The students of the B.Sc. Physik course, B.Sc. Nanostrukturwissenschaften course and M.Sc. Electrical Communication and Engineering course, have to attend the lecture ‚Nanosensorics‘.

Details about the practical course will be provided to the students on the first date of the lecture ‚Nanosensorics‘ in room -1607/Wilhelmshöher-Allee on Wednesday 26. October 2011, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Registration for the practicum

Please register in HISLSF until 17th November, 2011.

Note that the deadline for the enrolement for the examination in OKA or HIS will be 25th November, 2011. Without this registration you will not
be allowed to participate in the practicum!!! Bear in mind that 5 days ahead of the deadline, registration is not possible anymore. So please do it in time!!!


Start of the practicum will be 28th November, 2011.
